“Veterans Smile Day”
Some military veterans have been left behind when it comes to oral healthcare and healthcare overall. Unless they sustained a 100% military service-connected disability, are a former prisoner of war, or have a service-related dental disability, US military veterans do not qualify for full dental benefits when they return from active duty.
Dr. Deryck Pham’s Brickworks Family Dental in Mays Landing held the first “Veterans Smile Day” Veterans Day weekend 2012, and treated 35 veterans to free services. They performed everything from routine Dental services such as X-rays, exams, cleanings, fillings, root canals and extractions are offered for veterans who do not qualify for dental care through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
These men and women signed up to give us our freedom and including their lives, for our country," said Sheriff Eric Scheffler. "They should never be needing anything." Today is a day when Dr. Deryck Pham and the other dentist and their staff will make a difference and help our veterans that many Americans often forget about.
Shore Medical Group Angela Insana said, that “Veterans Smile Day” is a great event and I wished that more of her colleagues offered this service to the veterans. There is always a need for this service.
